He’s worth the wait

John 1: 29 The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him and said, “Look! The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world! 30 He is the one I was talking about when I said, ‘A man is coming after me who is far greater than I am, for he existed long before me.’

I can picture this day. John  had been preaching, telling people about this great Man who is coming. In John 1:14 he gave an illustration of who Jesus was when he  said  ;”So the Word became human[d] and made his home among us. He was full of unfailing love and faithfulness.[e] And we have seen his glory, the glory of the Father’s one and only Son.

John had been preaching about this word, he was immersed in it so much that when he saw the word in verse 29 walking towards him, he recognised Him.  With joy he shouted, there He is. Jesus had come and this man was still preaching about Him, still announcing Him to the world.

Imagine locking eyes with the Master, the Man you have been praying to, singing about and living for. Someone might be wondering what motivated John to continue preaching about Jesus even when people were not listening or doubted the things he said. But I would like to believe that it’s moments like these, the one described in verse 29. When Jesus finally shows up, when it’s no longer about He is coming but rather He is here. John was sure that Jesus is coming and nothing could change his mind. No situation, no system, absolutely nothing could make him doubt what he had been preaching about.

This scripture is very similar to John 4:5-30, where Jesus met a Samaritan woman at the well. The only difference between the 2 events is that this time the woman did not know she was talking to King Jesus. She continued with what she had come to do at the well, focused on her own life that she did not even notice that someone was there. Jesus had to start a conversation with her so that she does not miss that opportunity. Still arguing about the coming of the Lord, Jesus was patient with her. Until in verse 26 ; Then Jesus told her, I am the Messiah!” Her eyes were now opened to who stood before her, she then realised that the Man I have been reading about and getting ready for has finally come.

Jesus said:” the day or hour is not known to anyone.” Meaning He can come any day. So while we wait we get ready, We do everything He told us to do. In Matthew 24: 42 Jesus said , “So you, too, must keep watch! For you don’t know what day your Lord is coming.” We do this because like John we want to lock eyes with Him. I know this inspires me each day. Many of us God has told us what we need to do to get people ready, please do it. There are people who depend on hearing you preach the gospel of Jesus Christ so that they too can experience what awaits us on that day.

I pray you wait patiently and while you wait tell more people about Him, because any day from now He can show up. If you have moved from this truth because of circumstances or any situation, I pray you come back. May God’s love cover you and remind you of how much you mean to Him. Jesus is coming back, don’t lose focus. Hold on because He is worth the wait.

Shalom.
