When the Holy Spirit comes

Acts 1:8 But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”

In the scripture reference above Jesus was eating with His disciples and gave them instructions concerning the time to come, then He told them about the fulfillment of the Holy spirit who in some occasions He referred to as the Spirit of truth. He was now telling them about the coming of the Holy Spirit, what He brings and what He will do in their lives. Jesus once told the disciples about this precious Spirit in John 16:” 7 But very truly I tell you, it is for your good that I am going away. Unless I go away, the Advocate will not come to you; but if I go, I will send him to you.” He had made a promise about the arrival of the Holy Spirit, who was to come when Jesus leaves to be with His father. I love how He referred to Him as an advocate here, the Holy spirit came in our lives to do many things. In one of our previous posts we spoke about Him as our helper.

In Acts 1 Jesus said that when the Holy Spirit comes the disciples will receive power, not just any type of power but one called dunamis which means dynamic power to cause changes. No one will come in contact with the disciples and remain the same. The Spirit would impact power in everything they did and said. Jesus was now going to be with His father but He needed the disciples to do everything they had seen Him do, even more. So the Holy spirit would bring that ability to them, remember in Mark 16 verse 15 Jesus said , “…Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation. Jesus gave the disciples work to do  including us and the ability to do this will only come when the Holy spirit comes to reside in us. Jesus said;…”he will bear witness about me.” The Holy spirit is evidence of  Jesus in us.

In Luke 1, the angel visited Mary and told her of what was about to happen to her. How she is going to conceive a child, this one time human ways were not going to be practiced because a prophesy had to be fulfilled . Mary then asked how this is going to happen since she is a virgin and the angel answered in verse 35 saying; ” , “The Holy Spirit will come on you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. So the holy one to be born will be called[b] the Son of God”.  The Holy spirit gives us the power God operates with, power to call those things which be not as though they were. Jesus was to be born this way, through the Holy spirit. Mary said yes and everything happened the way the angel said it will. When the power came on Mary even her greeting was full of life, Elizabeth’s baby leaped in her womb when she greeted her and she was filled with the Holy Spirit. Mary was now a different person, like Peter and John in Acts 3:6. The power in them was now visible, they could touch the sick and healing would come.

Whatever you are struggling with the Holy spirit is the answer. There is so much power He comes with and this is our advantage. Jesus didn’t want us to be alone or frustrated, so He left us with the one who knows His voice. He said the Holy spirit will tell us everything He tells Him to say, the Spirit knows the heart of the Father. There’s so much I can say about Him. I remember my first encounter with Him, as young as I was  my eyes were opened to the reality that stood before me. I couldn’t keep this to myself, He brought opportunities for me to display His power and He still does. You have the Spirit of truth in you, everything you say and do carries power. Live as the one whom the Spirit resides in, an agent of change for many lives.

I pray that you be reminded of the power that came when you received  the Holy Spirit, may this truth remind you of the anointing that is upon your life. The Holy spirit has come, do what He says and follow His instructions because He knows the voice and the heart of the one who called you.

Shalom.
