A Call to Intercession

Intercession is a heavy but holy calling. It is a prayer that willingly takes on the burdens of others, standing in the gap for those who cannot stand for themselves. It is a prayer that refuses to give up, persisting relentlessly until God’s perfect will manifests on earth.Join me in reading this blog and stepping into this assignment. Together, let us become a people who pray fervently, strategically, and unceasingly for our nations and our families.

I searched for someone who would repair the wall, one who fills the gap, an intercessor to cry out for mercy, but I found no one. There was no one found who would keep my justice from destroying the nation.”
‭‭Ezekiel‬ ‭22‬:‭30‬ ‭TPT‬‬

Growing up, we had a few men and women in our church who were known as intercessors. What separated them from the rest of the congregation was their deep devotion to prayer. They would arrive early on Sunday mornings to pray, and during the week, they held dedicated sessions to meet and pray together. Although they led busy and demanding lives, they prayed continually. They approached intercession not just as an activity, but as an office; a spiritual channel God used to establish His will on earth as it is in Heaven.

A Universal Call to the Office of Intercession

As I grew older and got to understand the spiritual practices I witnessed as a child, I learned that God desires every single one of us to hold that office. Intercession is not reserved for a selected group of people. Instead, God is simply looking for hearts that will pray until His desires and plans are revealed on the earth. He seeks individuals who have a hunger to see His will manifest. In 1 Timothy 2:1, the Apostle Paul urges us, “first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people.” Here, Paul encourages us to pray for others, using intercession as a key method to make our prayers effective.

Lessons from Biblical Intercessors: Simeon’s Expectant Waiting

Consider the individuals to whom God revealed the coming of Jesus. The first was Simeon. God shared His divine plan with Simeon and promised him that he would not die before seeing this promise fulfilled. So, Simeon waited with deep expectancy. I can imagine him waking up every day, getting ready to lock eyes with the Messiah. No matter how much time passed, he never grew weary of waiting. I truly believe his waiting was anchored in intercessory prayer. He understood the monumental purpose resting on Jesus’s shoulders, recognising that someone needed to pray for His birth, His journey, and His divine assignment.

The Clarity of Divine Perspective

Because Simeon knew the promise and had prayed diligently for that moment, even the baby’s dedication was unique and perfectly accurate. Intercessory prayer does exactly that: It provides precise direction . When you intercede, you begin to view things from God’s perspective. While that sounds monumental, it is entirely possible. What looks completely ordinary to others will stand out to you as something requiring spiritual attention.

Intercession allows you to see people and situations for who and what God has made them to be. No loud announcement was made about Jesus, yet these intercessors knew He was the Savior they had been praying for. The moment had finally come, and they could physically hold the King they had birthed in prayer. Where others saw only a baby, Simeon saw the Savior of the world. Even Jesus’s parents were astonished by Simeon’s words. He was speaking mysteries in that moment; mysteries that would only make sense years later when the boy spoke and proved He was the fulfillment of the Father’s promise.

Anna’s Lifelong Devotion

Another intercessor present that day was a prophet named Anna. The Bible provides specific details about her life that always trigger deep reflection for me. Having read about her since my youth, I used to wonder how someone could be so entirely consumed by prayer and fasting. Luke 2:37 notes that she “was a widow until she was eighty-four. She never left the temple but worshiped night and day, fasting and praying.”

While many people complained and wished for the Messiah to arrive, Anna actively paved the way for His arrival through prayer. You have no idea what your intercessory prayers are accomplishing in the unseen. They carry the power to shift government structures and realign everything that opposes God’s will.

Shifting from Self to God’s Heart

Intercessory prayer aligns everything with the highest authority : the will of God. When we pray by taking on the burdens of others and the desires of God, we reach a point where His will becomes evident in His people. It creates a state where God’s heart dominates our own. Focus shifts entirely to God’s plan and will.

Stepping into National Assignment: The Example of Esther

Queen Esther also understood this need. When she required God’s strategy for her people’s survival, she asked Mordecai to gather the people to fast and pray for her. That was intercessory prayer. The task before her was great, and she risked execution by approaching the king. Yet, this collective prayer awakened a fierce resolve within her, leading to her famous declaration: “If I perish, I perish.” In that moment, she moved beyond her personal comfort to carry the burden of an entire nation.

A Modern Call to Stand in the Gap

When intercessors arise, nations are saved. In Ezekiel 22:30, God says, “I looked for someone among them who would build up the wall and stand before me in the gap on behalf of the land so I would not have to destroy it, but I found no one.”

This blog post is a direct call to awaken those whom nations and families desperately need to stand in the gap right now.

Becoming a Repairer of Broken Foundations

Intercessory prayer has the power to uproot generational curses and shatter toxic family patterns. Isaiah 58:12 promises, “Your people will rebuild the ancient ruins and will raise up the age-old foundations; you will be called Repairer of Broken Walls, Restorer of Streets with Dwellings.”

In those deep moments of prayer, you are birthing a completely new way of living; not just for yourself, but for generations to come. Therefore, I encourage you to stop just talking about the issues and start praying for them. Words alone will not break generational cycles. You need divine strategy and spiritual authority. You need to intercede passionately.

Our Commission: Praying for Leadership

An exploration like this cannot end without a direct call to action, and this week, the call is to pray. As the Apostle Paul instructed, we must pray for God’s people. He expands on this in 1 Timothy 2:2, urging us to pray “for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness.” God has commissioned us to pray for those in leadership roles. No position is too high or too broken for Him to fix. The scripture shows that when those in authority are under God’s influence, His people live in peace.

An Invitation to the Battle line

Until peace and quietness are fully established in our nations and across the globe, we cannot stop praying.

I invite you today into a lifestyle of intercessory prayer for God’s people. There is too much happening around us to turn a blind eye. This moment requires men and women who will stand firmly in the gap and weep for humanity. I know without a doubt that God is speaking right now, particularly concerning children. Because He is speaking, let us join our faith and fight this battle the right way; not against flesh and blood, but in the realm of the spirit.

Join me this June as we pray for our country and the many other burdens the Lord presses upon our spirits.

Let us pray:

Father, in the name of Jesus, thank You for this divine awakening of intercessors.

Thank You for raising up people who will stand boldly in the gap, praying for Your will to manifest on earth exactly as it is in heaven. We thank You, Lord, that men, women, and young people are rising to this call today. Through their prayers, families, communities, and nations shall be brought into perfect alignment with Your Word. Amen.
