Guard the Glow

“Don’t burn out; keep yourselves fueled and aflame. Be alert servants of the Master, cheerfully expectant. Don’t quit in hard times; pray all the harder. Help needy Christians; be inventive in hospitality.”
‭‭Romans‬ ‭12‬:‭11‬-‭13‬ ‭MSG‬‬

This week, we are diving into what it truly means to Guard the Glow. While we often focus on the light people see in our professional and social spheres, we’re talking about the inner glow; that deep, spiritual drive that keeps you moving when the world leaves you weary. In the parable of the ten virgins, the difference between those who stood ready and those left in the dark wasn’t the lamp; it was the oil in their vessels. They didn’t just have a flame for the moment; they had a private, intimate supply of oil that could only be cultivated in the secret place. Guarding the glow isn’t a one-time event; it’s a lifestyle of readiness. The wise virgins understood that the bridegroom’s arrival would happen in stages; the wait, the midnight cry, and the final procession. By securing a sufficient supply of oil, they ensured their lamps wouldn’t just flicker at the start, but would burn steadily through every transition. They didn’t just prepare to begin the journey; they prepared to finish it.

Have you ever been so anchored in a vision that giving up simply wasn’t an option, no matter the cost or the clock? That level of commitment doesn’t come from external hype; it comes from a well-guarded inner glow. See, one thing is certain : the Bridegroom is coming. Whether you are tilling the soil in hope or enduring a long midnight, your breakthrough is already in motion. Guarding your glow demands a deep assurance. It is the same conviction that led the wise virgins to prepare their oil for a Bridegroom who was unseen, yet absolutely certain to arrive. No amount of time passing without a sign of His arrival could shake their conviction that He was coming. The longer the delay, the more their expectancy grew and the brighter their lamps glowed.

How can we guard our glow as children of God today? We do so through continual, persistent prayer. Last week, during my devotions the Spirit led me to reflect on how Jesus consistently rose early to pray. He made prayer His priority, If Jesus needed that time, how much more do we? We can’t let busy become an excuse for a dim lamp. Keeping your glow requires intentionality. If you have to sacrifice an hour of sleep in the morning or late at night, do it. Your spiritual fire depends on it. In 1 Thessalonians 5:17 Paul wrote; “pray without ceasing.” In fact, some translations go as far as to say: Make prayer your life.

When the king and his advisors enacted a decree that for thirty days, anyone who prayed to any god but the king would be thrown into a den of lions, Daniel remained unfazed. Despite his reputation for praying three times a day, he refused to let the threat of death disrupt his devotion. He simply went about his routine, kneeling before God just as he always had. When the king heard of this, he reluctantly ordered Daniel to be cast into the den. Yet, remarkably, the lions did not touch him. Imagine staring into the eyes of predators and still trusting God to prevail; and He did. Daniel’s consistent prayer life shielded him from danger, making him effectively untouchable in the presence of those lions. (Daniel 6). Had Daniel compromised and remained silent during those thirty days, his glow would have surely dimmed. Instead, he persevered in prayer. While the laws of the land shifted and others lived in terror, he stood on the truth that those who trust in the Lord will never be put to shame (Psalm 25:3). I believe those lions saw the weight of God’s glory resting upon him and simply had to bow. Never give up on prayer, no matter the cost. It is the vital point where we connect to the Source of our strength; a sacred space where we are refreshed and renewed. I cannot imagine my life without prayer; it is the place where God summons us to speak of things to come, where He heals our wounds, and where He prepares us for the future.

Let His Spirit fuel your heart, causing you to overflow with divine energy and productivity as you face each new day. We are acutely aware that we cannot do these things by our own strength, the weight is simply too great. Instead, we depend entirely on our Father’s greatest gift: the Holy Spirit. He is always ready to assist us, to carry us, and even to pray for us. Please do not forsake the Spirit of God; He is the ultimate Helper you need. When you have run out of ways to guard your glow, run to Him, He will make sure that you do not go astray. He transforms your weakness into a powerful testimony and intercedes on your behalf until you can stand again and pray with fervency.

The Spirit of God ensures that His glory continues to radiate through you in every season. He makes the Word of God come alive, so that studying Scripture is nothing like reading an ordinary book. Because of the Holy Spirit, these moments become a divine encounter where you truly hear God speaking to you. The Holy Spirit makes the Word of God profoundly relevant to our daily lives. “But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.”John‬ ‭14‬:‭26‬ ‭NIV‬‬. In this very moment, God has a word specifically for you. Open your Bible and trust the Holy Spirit to reveal what He is saying today. That word will carry you and bring clarity to your vision; it will impart peace that surpasses all understanding and empower you to walk free from any addiction.

We’ve touched on three essential keys to guarding the glow: consistent, fervent prayer, a deep intimacy with the Holy Spirit, and the life-giving power of the Word of God. Though many other principles exist, let’s remain intentional and focus on these three this week.

LET’S PRAY

Precious Father, thank You for the reminder that we shine for Your glory. I stand in agreement with every reader today, praying that the Holy Spirit keeps their hearts ablaze. No matter the season, I declare an overflow of joy over them as they witness Your Word manifest. May heaven overwhelm them, fixing their thoughts only on Your promises. These are Your beloved children, and You are pleased with them; no contrary word can corrupt the work You’ve begun. We thank You that Your glory is revealed through us in every season, growing brighter from glory to glory. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
