““Be still and know (recognize, understand) that I am God. I will be exalted among the nations! I will be exalted in the earth.”” Psalms 46:10 AMP
One of the character traits I’ve learnt about Jesus is how calm His spirit was, no matter what He faced. He never allowed any circumstance have its way, He always maintained a posture of stillness and calmness. I’m also learning that it’s in this state that heaven can operate and give a heavenly outcome. This life we are living is known by God, He knows every detail about it so allowing Him to do everything will result in what is described in Romans 8:38. “And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.”
In Mark 4:35-41, Jesus told His disciples to journey with Him. “Let us go over to the other side”, Jesus said. Then while on the way (in a boat), a strong wind blew and the bible says that the waves began to spill over into the boat. I’m thinking the disciples thought that if more water keeps getting into the boat, they will all go down with it and drown. Jesus was also there, but the bible says during this He was asleep. The disciples then decided to wake Him up, trembling with fear. The Master woke up and attended to the situation, the bible says that He rebuked the storm and shouted to the sea; “hush, be still”. Immediately everything was calm. Jesus had people that were depending on His arrival on the other side, a lot was at stake. Nothing could change this, He had to make it to the other aside. Thank God He was in that boat with the disciples, they somehow let that temporal moment shake their belief and knowledge of the Person in the boat with them. But Jesus woke up and restored peace.
Training your Spirit to be still will eliminate any possible fear or anxiety that can come because of circumstances. Yes the storm might be there but choose to be still. David said; “ “I am standing in absolute stillness, silent before the one I love, waiting as long as it takes for him to rescue me. Only God is my Savior, and he will not fail me.” Psalms 62:5 TPT. We are still in any situation because we know the one who is in charge of our lives, this is not just anyone ; IT’S GOD. God who gives meaning to any moment, God who created everything there is. I know sometimes it feels great to be in charge but let God do this for you. If we can watch a movie from start to finish, I’m sure we can sit through this one as well. God takes you very serious. Luke 12:7 says ; “Indeed, the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows.” How many of us can say that we know the number of hairs on our heads? We are still and trusting in a God who knows us better than we know ourselves. He knows how that story that is keeping you awake and worried is going to end, remain calm.
While journeying to the promised land in Exodus 14, the Israelites met the Red Sea and they started complaining to Moses. Moses’s response to them is; “ do not be afraid, stand still and see the salvation of the Lord”. Moses knew Who they were walking with, to him God wasn’t just someone he heard his forefathers talk about. He had a personal revelation about God, He knew Him. Moses knew that God had a purpose for that time, he didn’t allow chariots of the Egyptians coming their way disturb the work God had started. “The Egyptians you see today, you shall see them no more “, Moses said. Then God started giving him instructions on how they will flee from the Egyptians and indeed they flee. When we are still and calm we hear properly, we follow through correctly.
Remember when apostle Paul said; “I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.” Galatians 2:20 NIV. We have the identity of Jesus Christ in us now, if He could be calm in a storm to a point of falling asleep then surely we can. We are not alone, we have a Father who loves us and who knows us. Be confident of this! Let your stillness and calmness be a testimony of who God is. All things are working together for your good, don’t let circumstances shake your love and passion for the Master. Keep your focus on Him, train your spirit to be still and calm so that you can hear the Lord speak. Like David, also say; “Surely I have calmed and quieted my soul; Like a weaned child [resting] with his mother, My soul is like a weaned child within me [composed and freed from discontent].”Psalms 131:2 AMP. Amen.
I pray that in your stillness and calmness you experience heaven, I pray that you see the salvation of the Lord in this season. Finally I pray that you remain steadfast, “… Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain.”1 Corinthians 15:58 NIV.
Again I say; BE STILL
Amen.
