“for through him God created everything in the heavenly realms and on earth. He made the things we can see and the things we can’t see— such as thrones, kingdoms, rulers, and authorities in the unseen world. Everything was created through him and for him.”
Colossians 1:16 NLT
The Spirit of God is doing an awakening work in this season, drawing us deeper into the spiritual realms that Jesus Christ reigns over. There is a divine desire from the Father for us to become fully conscious of this reality. This awareness is not about giving honor to darkness or principalities; rather, it is about gaining spiritual insight so that we can successfully exercise our dominion and know exactly how to reign over any territory.
Before we can look into the unseen realms of the spirit, let’s first look at the ultimate Head of all principalities; Jesus Christ, the authority He holds not just in Heaven but also on earth.
In John 14, Jesus spoke powerful words of direction to His disciples. Before facing the cross, He painted a beautiful picture of our ultimate destination to secure our faith:
1. The Destination: He promised He was going to prepare a place for us.
2. The Assurance: He declared He would return to take us to be with Him.
3. The Path: He told them, “You know the way to the place where I am going.”
Jesus bridged the gap by declaring, “I am the way and the truth and the life” (John 14:6). By keeping our eyes on Him, we navigate the spiritual realm with His backing. (Matthew 28:18-20).
Preparing a Place for Us
While we live our everyday lives, we have a Saviour and King who has personally taken it upon Himself to prepare an eternal dwelling for us. Jesus made it clear that this world is not our final destination; it was never intended to be. Instead, this earthly life is a temporary passage on our journey to our true home.
In Genesis 1:27–28, God outlines our original purpose; “So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them… God blessed them and said to them, ‘Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over… every living creature…'”. With everything God created, He required mankind in His own likeness to not just occupy, but to actively govern His creation. Every single thing we see in this physical world was made by God. Irrespective of whose name is currently on the title deed, the ultimate producer is our Father.
However, this divine ownership does not give us the right to walk into earthly facilities, claim them unlawfully, or force people out. God did not call us to chaos, but to a higher standard of authority. God trusted us with more than just basic management; He trusted us with His dominion.
True dominion reflects God’s heart. It governs with kindness, care, love, compassion, and grace. Oppression, on the other hand, is stewardship corrupted by ungodliness, heavy-handed control, and forceful subjection. Our God does not operate through oppression, and neither should we.
The Restoration of Divine Order
When humanity fell, the divine order God established in creation was turned upside down. Things humanity was meant to govern; sin, sickness, and fear, began to rule over them. But Jesus came, and He re-established our authority, then ascended to heaven to prepare our eternal home.
Think of loving parents who carefully prepare a nursery before their child arrives. Jesus is doing the same for us.
Because we live for Him now, arriving in Heaven will be a continuation of our everyday walk. But we do not have to wait until death to start living. We have the authority to live the Kingdom life right now.
The Illusion of a Plan Gone Wrong
After the crucifixion, the disciples hid in fear (John 20:19). They thought the plan had failed.
Yet, even in the silence of the tomb, our Master was in absolute control. What looked like defeat was a kingdom takeover.
Jesus descended to strip the enemy of his power. He now holds the keys of death and Hades (Revelation 1:18). Colossians 2:15 reveals that He disarmed principalities and made a public spectacle of them. No spiritual power stands higher than Jesus.
Walk in Your Freedom
Psalm 8:6 reminds us: “You let us rule everything your hands have made.” Divine authority rests over your life because the Head of all principalities is your Saviour.
Remember these truths when facing difficult situations:
- No situation is too difficult: Every mountain must bow to the name of Jesus.
- No habit is too strong: The shackles of addiction were broken at the cross.
- No past is too dark: The shame of your history has lost its legal voice.
Jesus took the keys of bondage so you could walk out of anything holding you back. You have the spiritual authority to turn away from destruction, reject corruption, and shake off oppression today.
Let’s pray;
Father, thank You for the gift of freedom. This freedom reigns supreme in our lives and in the lives of those we know. We declare in the mighty name of Jesus that nothing shall ever hold us back, for we have been set free by Christ Jesus through His abundant grace.
We declare that Jesus is Lord over our families, our careers, our businesses, and everything concerning us. No other principalities, powers, or spiritual laws have the right to govern us; we belong fully to Jesus.
We declare that the Lord is our shepherd, and we shall not want. Thank You, mighty God, that Your people are awakening to the divine dominion You have given them.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
